Sermon on the Mount: Ask, Seek, Knock

Matthew 7:7-11

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

Reflection

So often, we fail to receive what we want because we don’t ask! We make up our minds that if God wanted us to having something, He would have already given it, or maybe we don’t deserve what our heart tells us that we want. Of course, if what we want is sinful, He will always say no. But God puts into our hearts a desire that is according to His Will.

Do you find yourself ruminating over a desire in your heart that you haven’t asked Him about? When you know the desires are good, but you can’t imagine that they will happen to you, do you also imagine that a God who created the heavens and the earth wouldn’t move the universe to make it happen for you? Most importantly, what can you do to make yourself submit your request to Him more readily?
